Neurotic Cleaning

I wouldn’t exactly say we live in abject filth, however let’s just say no one’s dropping by to hand out the spic-n-span tidy award at Chez LaBrecque. But this morning I got up at 3 a.m. to clean. Why? Because I’m taking an overnight trip to Florida for a mini-conference and I can’t stand to walk back into a mess. Ridiculous and probably neurotic I know but whether I’m gone overnight or a week, I want my house to be tidy and clean when I return. Unfortunately I don’t suffer this same dementia when I’m gone for a couple of hours. I s’pose that means I should travel more.8)

Anybody else out there with this wierd hang-up? What’s your travel neurosis?

  1. I’m a bit of a neat freak all the time, but it *is* especially prevelent right before I’m going to go on a trip. Like you, the idea of facing a mess when I come home is unthinkable. I’ll be tired, I’ll have laundry–the last thing I want to do is walk into a trashed house and having that additional work staring me in the face.

Be safe, Jen! Have a (d) for me. :)

  4. Yep, I’m with you there. And I have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle housework. Have a safe and fun trip. 8)

  5. Thanks kim and Ginger. I pretty much HATE housework. But it’s decent to walk back into at this point. (y)

  6. Guilty. It seems that when I am am headed out of town is the only time my house does get cleaned. :$ See? Travel is good. For more than the obvious reasons…
After week at the beach with my girls, I was shocked when we walked in and the place was neat and tidy. I thought I was in the wrong house. Honest!
Good luck tomorrow - lay it on thick and break a leg!! I am sure you’ll be brilliant! (i)

  7. Same here. I can’t handle the idea of coming home from a trip and facing a dirty house–even if I live in clutter every other day of the year. My biggest neurosis–I have to change the sheets right before I leave so I can sleep on clean ones when I get home.
