Sometimes I wish I could just watch a movie without my internal writing editor knocking around in my head. Last night the dh and I watched The Family Stone. From about 1/3 of the way through it was predictable. But it was a great job of characterization from the sceenwriters and great delivery by the actors/actresses. But there were a couple of details in the movement of time and people that are still bothering me this morning. We watched the extras at the end and part of that included interviews with the director and set producer. They discussed how much work went into the setting and the details that were paid attention to in the setting and the costume design. So, why didn’t they clean up some of those niggling, disconcerting details? Even though I really, really liked the movie, it felt like sloppy editing — unlike Brokeback Mountain, which was flawless, IMO. As it is, I’m going to have to turn off my inner critic and just let it go.:s
Anyone else suffer this syndrome?

Sometimes I do when reading a book. Try the movie “Last Holiday” with Queen Latifah, I saw it this past weekend, really enjoyed it. Have a wonderful weekend and a great MOTHER’S DAY (f) (f) (f)

I have the same problem. I have to stop myself from ruining the movie for everyone else in the room by going, hey did you catch that. I especially hate all the small details that just pop out at me and drive me nuts during the movie. I have to shut it down and remeber everyone has an off day, can’t be perfect.
Have a great Mother’s Day weekend.

Ginger, I’ll have to pass that movie title along to my dh. He’s a movie-aholic. Honestly he watches 4-5 a week.
Madison, I’m with you. Those niggly things may bother me but I try to keep my mouth shut. at least during the movie. My mother, and I adore her, is incredibly annoying to watch movies with because she has an ongoing commentary running along with the film. :o I love her but it drives me crazy.

I do this with books. It’s especially hard to reread these days because on the second pass, every little mistake jumps out.

May, I’m with you. It’s a big deal for me these days when I can “lose” myself in a book.
