I realized this morning that I’ve become very ritualistic. I used not to be. Now, every morning when I sit down to write I have a little check list I run through.
Window blinds rolled up
Tea on coaster on desk
Salt lamp turned on
Draw one Self-Care card…uh yeah, and read it
Draw one Power of Intention card and read
Dogs and cat in the office (or sometimes not if they prefer the couch downstairs)
Internet connection off (too distracting)
CD playing that fits mood of what I’m writing (optional)
Three deep breaths to open myself to the book
At first I thought maybe I was just getting old and set in my ways :[but instead I think it’s my signal to my brain to get ready to roll into creative mode.
Anyone else have daily rituals they go through before they start work (other than rolling out of bed and showing up for the party
)?

Oh, yes, you are not alone. When I get to work, start computer, check voice mail, email, open copy room (start copier), start coffee (reg & decaf), pot of tea. In 2 weeks I will add opening 8 classrooms before above mentioned items. This actually brings me comfort, I am not big on change at all!!! Too many in the past. In the evening, I love to read ~20 minutes before bed time, it relaxes me. Have a wonderful day.

I like hearing other rituals. It’s nice and comforting, isn’t it?

Oh, I get the kid off to school, play mood music, make pot of tea and toast. Sit at desk. Absorb the silence….and get started. I only break to get more tea.
You can see why this never works in the summer, lol.

Ah, the OCD tendencies. Can’t be a writer without them. I have an entire routine too, that involves iced tea, even in the dead of winter …

Jill, I thought I was the only one that did iced tea in the winter. :p
