Yesterday I went to the movies…twice.
I took Girl and one of her friends to an early showing of The Bridge to Terebithia. Totally excellent movie. Not only were the actors great in their parts, that was some damn fine writing, imo. :thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2: There were lots of families in there but I also saw a 20-something childless couple and an older couple. Really, even if you don’t have kids, go to see this one.
Came home and cleaned house. Went to grocery store. Went for a 4-mile run. Watched last bit of the Daytona 500 (was that some freakin’ race or WHAT? Last lap and I was out of my chair, trying to push Mark Martin over the finish line ahead of Harvick — guess I didn’t push hard enough. Then I had to call Wendy Etherington because she’s the only other person that I knew would’ve watched the race and gave a flying fig.
). Post-race I cooked a great dinner of Greek Shrimp Scampi (which I ate alone as the DH was at the office and Girl had gone to spend the night with her friend — which didn’t exactly work out and I had to go get Girl when she called at 3:15 a.m. to say “Mommy, I can’t sleep here. Can you come get me?”
. While I was cooking I called a friend and said, “I’m going to see the late showing of Music and Lyrics. Wanna come?” She did.
Music and Lyrics was a good way to end the day. Hugh Grant doesn’t leave me weak at the knees, but I absolutely adore his droll delivery and he was in fine form. Drew Barrymore also did a great job with her role. I’ll have to say, I wasn’t feeling the romantic chemistry between the two. Instead I felt as if I were watching two people in the throes of forming a friendship — which was fine. Mediocre script carried by two fine actors.:thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
There are lots of good movies out now — well, they look good. Anyone else get to the movies this weekend?

I hardly ever go see a movie or rent them for that matter. I’m too busy reading, if you know what I mean…. Have a great Monday.

I hardly ever rent them Ginger but I love going to the movie theatre. And yeah, most of the time I prefer having my head stuck in a book.

Is Bridge to Teribithia good watching for the wee ones? AC is taken by the adverts on TV…

Kimberly, it wasn’t what I expected. I was expecting The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or something like that. It’s nothing like that. I’m not sure that a child under third grade wouldn’t be bored and it’s emotionally intense in places but then again, I suppose Bambi is as well. But then again, there were plenty of people there with wee ones yesterday and none of those kids were talking or rustling around.

I rented “Click” this weekend. I really like it. My daughter rented “Pipi longstockings movie” Oh god about 3 times. It drives me crazy
:wallbash:  What can she see that I don’t in a girl with crazy red hair.

LOL, Barbara. I think you either love her or hate her. I’m in the hate Pippi camp.

No movies this weekend. Instead we visited #1 son, DIL and the grandbaby. She’s as good as a movie now that she’s jabbering a lot. She’s so snuggly I hated coming back home.
Two weekends ago the Playfriends went to see “Because I Said So.” REALLY cute guy in that one, but Diane Keaton needs some serious fashion advice.

Ooo! Glad you liked Music and Lyrics — there are a few of us planning a ‘girls’ night out’ to go see that… maybe this week.
Was the soundtrack as good as I’m hoping?? :)

Oddly enough the upcoming movie I want to see is “Wild Hogs” with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. The DH got a Harley back in the fall and the whole suburban biker wannabes taking a road trip sounds like it’ll be a barrel of laughs.

Marily, the grandbaby sounds precious!
I thought Wild Hogs looked good too. Hmmm. When’s it come out?
Kris, you’ll like it! It’ll be a fun night. I don’t recall the soundtrack being memorable, but I’m awful about noticing that kind of stuff during the movie.
