I’ve had newspaper articles written about me a couple of times and it was fairly flattering. But I got a phone call last Friday and the kid down the street wants to do her 8th grade literature assignment, a report on a Georgia author, on me.
She’s researched me via my website and today after she gets home from school she’s coming by to interview me and get some photos of me at my desk. Hey, I’m going to have my very own posterboard dedicated to me.
I think this is so cool. Really, it’s more exciting than the newspaper article in some weird way I can’t quite pin down in my head. She even asked me if I’d come in next Monday and speak to her class. 8O I said ‘yes’ but I’m thinking this class of 35 8th graders may be a tougher audience than addressing a group of 200 conference attendees at National.
So, I’ve cleaned up my office a bit in preparation for my afternoon interview and I suppose I’ll dust off my pants suit in honor of my school appearance next week.:thankyou:

:thankyou: Have fun!

Very cool, Jen.

How cool! I don’t guess, though, you’ll be doing a reading from any of your books. At least not the sexy parts. Does this mean we have to call you “Ms. LaBrecque” now?

This *is* cool. Seriously, if can impress the 8th graders, that’s saying something. They’re hormonally-charge disenchanted little know-it-alls at that age. (I have one, remember. :-) )

Cole, I think it will be fun.
Hey, can you believe it, Ellen? 8O
LOL, Marilyn. No. I won’t be reading aloud an excerpt. In fact, I thought that I’d caution them not to read any excerpts from my website, but in about 2 seconds figured that’d be like waving a red flag at a bull. :happy2: Actually, I’m trying to get a copy of my August NASCAR cover and I might take in my first scene/chapter from that. They could all read that book. PG rating.
Like I said, Rhonda, they’re gonna be a tougher audience than speaking to a huge room at National.

I’m wondering if this 8th grader has read your books before…
But very cool. It’d be neat to be a kid’s project.

Thanks, Kim.
Uh…she hasn’t read any of them to my knowledge.
