Clutter Buster?

A blog earlier this week at The Writing Playground got me fired up about Spring Cleaning and clutter. The Paralyzed Veterans Asoociation picked up 8 donation bags from my front porch yesterday.

I’ve also realized I need to address another kind of clutter. Mental clutter. Oh, yeah, it’s there. It’s the stuff that dances around in my head, jockeying for prime spot, wrecking my focus. Unfortunately, it’s not just a matter of tossing this stuff in a bag and putting it on my front porch for pick up.

How do you deal with mind clutter? I can use all the tips you’ve got. Don’t be shy. Speak up. Thanking you in advance for your help….

  3. Meditation, guided or otherwise, is great. I also do yoga when I get the chance. You dump everything from your mind except the movements and your breathing. Its exercise and relaxation all at once!!

  4. I believe it’s about perspective. So many of the things we let distract us on a day to day basis are very minor. I believe if you’re living a meaningful life and understand that the primary focus of our lives should be on relationships all those other things are put into their proper place on the priorities list.

  5. Hmmm, how do I get the clutter out? Well, I pick up a romance book and BAM, it’s outta there. Good luck with cleaning out the clutter and have a wonderful weekend. And heres to some rain to get rid of the pollen.

  6. One of the best mind clearers that I’ve found, besides meditation, is the brain dump.
You take a journal or 3 pieces of paper, then just write straight for as many minutes as it takes to fill 3 pages. Just write whatever is on your mind. Mine can be an overloaded To Do list that has me worried or whatever problems are bothering me that day or story ideas. Whatever. But I usually find that when I do this, I’m able to go about my day less preoccupied by the mind clutter and more focused.

I don’t do it every day, but I do it more often when I’m worried or preoccupied.

  7. Okay, Marilyn, Andrea and Danniele, I think I’m going to have to give meditation a try. It keeps coming to me through articles and you guys.

Danniele, I may try making that list/writing out my distractions.

LOL, Ginger, losing myself in a book is TOO appealing but it won’t get my work done.

Eric, you’re right. Sometimes it’s difficult to keep the perspective.

  8. I went to ballet class this morning…while I will not be able to walk for the next few days, my brain feels a whole lot better.

Seems that concentrating on not falling on my butt allowed some much needed downtime for the rest of my brain.

I need to address some physical clutter around here though…tomorrow is Clean Out The Effing Garage day at casa Kimberly.

And Jen, if you want a good, easy meditation, let me know. I have some good ones I can copy for you.
