What I’ve Learned from my Dogs

I guess there’s a lot of lessons there. But here’s the one that struck me this week. Every morning I get up and let the dogs into the back yard. And it’s the same every morning. They line up at the door, I open it, and they tear out, hell bent for leather, racing across the back deck and tearing into the back yard. No, they’re not that desperate to do their business. They’re racing out after squirrels. They never catch a squirrel but it’s the same crazy enthusiasm and excitement every morning.

I figure the lesson there is simple enough. Face every day with the same enthusiasm and optimism even if you didn’t meet your goal the day before. Yes, it has occurred to me that it could be mistaken for stupidity, but I prefer to think of it as optimism.

Enjoy your weekend.

  2. What a wonderful thought! I often let yesterday’s discouragement cloud over today. Thanks for the optimistic reminder, Jen.

  3. Not only do they teach a lesson about optimism, but dogs love you unconditionally. Well… they do want you to feed them. I’m going to enjoy tomorrow with my grandbaby. Today’s her first birthday and tomorrow’s her party.

  5. Deep thoughts from Jen this morning.

My dog taught me the importance of sticking my ground–she was a bit of a bed hog. If I didn’t stand firm, I’d end up on the floor. :dog:

  6. LOL, KImberly — the dog in the bed and you on the floor. Hmmm. What’s wrong with THAT picture?

  7. I start my day out like your dogs. Do they come in dragging? I sure do at the end of the day. But I can look back over my day and see what I have accomplished. Have a wonderful weekend.

  9. I took your advice, Jen :dog: - but alas, I got no squirrels either…. :|

I have to agree, though - there is no better way to start a day, than with enthusiasm, optimism and a good workout! :cooldance:
