There is something very inspiring about spending time with people of similar interest and experience. Between deadlines, National conference, my mother’s health, and life in general, it had been a long time since I’d attended a Georgia Romance Writer’s meeting. I presented the program yesterday. I told the group I always left more inspired and with more knowledge than when I came.
I think there’s something very empowering about groups, whether it’s a professional association of writers or a scrapbooking club, or an exercise group. It’s the shared experience, the encouragement, the consolation. Sure, not everyone gets along. And that’s life. I still think the benefits outweigh the cons.
I spent yesterday in the company of people who love to write and who love to read. When I got home, my family was out for the evening. I ignored the kitchen that needed to be cleaned up (actually, I’m saving it for The Girl who was supposed to do it earlier–don’t want to deprive her. :P), ignoed the laundry waiting to be done and the stack of paperwork on my desk and plopped on the couch and read for five hours without interruption. It was lovely.
