I made a serious tactical error Thrusday night. My first mistake was stopping by B&N and picking up IN THE COMPANY OF THE COURTESAN by Sarah Dunant. My second, and bigger mistake, was sitting down to “just read the first couple of pages.” Somewhere around midnight and page 92 I fell asleep on the couch with my glasses on. :hehe: I didn’t dare even glance in its direction yesterday…until the end of the day when I’d finished line edits, gone into the office for a couple of hours, exercised, cooked dinner. cleaned up the kitchen, and then sat down with a glass of wine. I still have RITA books to judge. I had no business buying this and even less business starting to read it…but it’s wonderful. How can I resist being sucked into sixteenth century Venice? Venice is possibly the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to — elegant and sophisticated and full of intrique.
The other non-error purchase was a Led Zeppelin cd. I’d forgotten how much I really love their music. I was trained at an early age by older brothers. The cd I bought, my brothers owned the vinyl.
So. I got back from taking Girl to school and gave my Bose speakers a workout while I made the bed and unloaded the dishwasher. Ya know, Zeppelin is best listened to LOUD! And what better way to jump-start your day? My husband got out of the shower and Misty Mountain Hop was blasting through the house. (Just an aside, but I have to skip over Stairway to Heaven as it’s possibly the most over-exposed tune in the universe…well, maybe with the exception of Skynard’s Free Bird but that’s really not universal, just here in the South.) I’m not sure if the dh thought that was an optimal start to his day or not. He never said…or maybe he did and I just couldn’t hear him on his way out the door. :P
