Carry On

I’m going to ground. This book has to be finished this week. The good news, however, is I’m really having a good time with the hero and heroine and all the other people showing up in the book. It’s a good thing because we’re all going to be spending a lot of time together this week. 8O

I’m going “no Internet.” Because I have no willpower, I am physically removing the wireless card from my laptop. :fryingpan: That means I won’t be checking emails or blogging.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Carry on without me.

Writing’s Vagaries

Sunny stepped out of her panties and dropped them to the floor.

Sunny stepped out of her panties and dropped them on the floor.

On or to? To or on?

Fifteen minutes of dithering over which preposition. There is a subtle difference. :wallbash:

This however flowed easily:

Standing naked in Cade’s bathroom felt decidedly intimate. His toothbrush and a razor sat on the edge of the sink. A black and burgundy velour robe hung from a hook on the back of the door. A tube of hemorrhoid cream lay on the back of the toilet. Apparently she wasn’t the only pain in his ass.

The last two lines were written for my own amusement. My amusement stemming from the thought of leaving them in the manuscript for my editor to find. :happy2::devil::happy2:

Of course we all know a Blaze hero can’t have hemorrhoid cream left on the back of his toilet. He has to keep that hidden in the under-sink cabinet… :happy2::doh:

Have a nice weekend!! :cooldance:

Alrighty Then

I am notorious for missing special events such as birthdays, valentine’s day, you name it. So, I was especially proud of myself that I actually got my butt in gear and not only bought my mother a card but bought her a present and got it shipped early enought that she got it BEFORE Mother’s Day. I thought about getting her a gift card to Belks but I wanted to actually buy her a gift. I’d looked over the whole section when I saw a blue-haired lady checking out Cappagallo capris and matching tops in a blue and white seersucker material. Perfect. It looked just like something Mama would wear. I bought her the top but I wasn’t sure on the capris so I bought two sizes and just included the receipt so she could take the other pair back and get something else.

The package arrived last Friday and she was elated. She loved it! Loved the color and loved the material.

I called her early Sunday morning to wish her a happy mother’s day.

Mama: Let me tell you what I did. Buck (my stepfather) says I shouldn’t have but I did it anyway.

Me: Okay…

Mama: Well, I just wasn’t sure if a woman my age should wear those capris and it was worrying me. I was laying awake in bed on Saturday worrying about it and then it occurred to me what I could do. I cut the bottoms off one pair of those pants and hemmed it on the bottom of the other to make it full-length pants.

Dead silence because I am absolutely rendered speechless. Honestly, I couldn’t say anything….and that doesn’t happen often.

Mama: Well, are you there?

Me: Uh, yeah. I just don’t really know what to say.

Mama: You’re mad aren’t you?

Me: I’m not mad (pissed was more like it). But did you see how much I paid for that? Why didn’t you just take it back?:wallbash:

Mama: I didn’t want to take it back because I liked it. So, I fixed it. It’s got a double bottom and it looks fine.

Me: How does it not look weird?

Mama: Wait until you see it. It looks good.

Me: I’ll have to see it cause, quite frankly, I can’t imagine it.

At this point all I can do is laugh. We’re talking cuffed seersucker here, people. Mama’s definitely marching to her own drum on this one. I told Girl and she just grinned and said, “Grandma’s out there.”

Uh-huh.

Monday afternoon she tells me she wore her new outfit to the eye doctor and it looked good.

Mom: He stroked my arm the whole time he was talking to me.

Me: It’s probably that double-bottom fashion statement you were making — he couldn’t help himself.

Mom: I didn’t raise you to be a smart-ass.

Who knows, Mama may be starting a whole new fashion trend among the south Georgia blue-haired set…or not.

Contest Today

Yesteraday at lunch I went to the gym to ride the stationary bike. There’s a bank of six t.v.’s, all with the volume off and you just tune in your MP3 player to the channel posted on the t.v. for the sound. I had a choice of watching and tuning into ESPN, FOX news, CNN, Jerry Springer, The Family Feud, or One Life to Live. Guess which show I tuned into. At the end of the day I’ll choose a winner from the correct guesses.:present:

What’s the prize? I dunno yet, but hey people, it’s something FREE! Name that show.:fryingpan:

The Sandwich War

Every morning I get up while everyone else is still piled up in bed and make 4 ham and cheese sandwiches. Three with Miracle Whip cause the DH doesn’t like mayo and one with mayo for Girl. My nephew is living with us for a bit and works with my husband. They get one and a half each with the Miracle Whip. Girl gets the mayo for school. I don’t eat a ham and cheese sandwich every day. I eat a salad cause I’m lucky enough to work at home and that’s what I prefer. So, this is strictly a labor of love on my part.

Yesterday was a busy morning. I had to have Girl at a crack’o dawn orthodontis appointment. The DH was up abnormally early. I was heading downstairs, “You know, it’d be nice if you could make the bed this morning. I have to leave early to get Girl to the orthodontist.”

A very brief time later, he heads out the door, which essentially means he’s thrown on his clothes and shagged ass. I go upstairs. The bed is a slept-in mess. I make it. I go back downstairs. Then, in the spirit of the morning, I make 2 and a half sandwiches. One for Girl. One and a half for my nephew. The baggie with the one and a half sandwiches is labeled in permanent marker “For Nephew. No DH.”

Mid-morning I get a phone call.

DH: Uh, hey, where’s my sandwich?

Me: Do you see one in the lunchsack?

DH: No. That’s why I’m calling.

Me: You couldn’t bother to make the bed. I couldn’t bother to make your sandwich.

He laughs.

DH: Is that how we’re playing this.

Me: That’s how we’re playing this. And by the way, that sandwich and a half is made with mayonnaise.

Now as soon as I post this blog, it’s sandwich making time again. 2 1/2 or 4? I’ll probably cave to the 4. I had my fun yesterday and if he does make the bed he never straightens the bottom sheet which is rather one of the main points of the whole endeavor.:fryingpan: I think he does that on purpose.

Hapy Mother’s Day

Hope everyone had a great weekend and a nice Mother’s Day. I actually got my stuff together and mailed cards/gifts to my mom and the MIL last week and UPS delivered both on Friday. Jen being organized? Scary.

Yesterday Girl and I enjoyed a mother/daughter lunch out at Panera’s on the patio and then some window shopping. Then Girl had a book to finish reading and a book report to write and I churned out several pages myself. At least we were working together.

And since my DH has been extremely busy with work the last couple of weeks which would preclude his tiny non-multi-tasking mind from thinking about what gift he and Girl might get me for Mother’s Day but since I am a fabuloso Mom, I took care of that for him.

Rare Red EndODay Ring

From a site in England where an 1850s bottle manufacturer would toss scraps over the cliff. They would mix different colors of molten glass at the End Of The Day, and this fascinating piece is the result.

I’ve wanted a piece of the Victorian red glass ever since I read about. I love the idea of wearing a stone that has been shaped by an ocean journey that’s tossed it about. When I saw this ring was my size…and Mother’s Day was fast approaching…and the DH had obviously not devoted even half a brain cell to a gift…well, I helped him out. It’ll arrive this week. I can’t wait!

The Rookie

Here’s the cover for my September Harlequin NASCAR book. I must confess, it’s NOT how I pictured the hero in my head. The guy I wrote DOES NOT look as if he’d travel with a case of White Rain or Aqua Net. The guy in my book doesn’t even own a blow-dryer (and yes, the topic comes up). :fryingpan::cursing::wallbash:

Nonetheless, it IS a good book!! Here’s a sneak peek at the first chapter. Just click on the “read an excerpt pop-up” link.
