Friday evening, 6-ish:
Girl: Can we go out for dinner?
Me: No. I’m working, I’m cheap and I look like a hag.
Girl: Okay, I know what you’re going to say but I really just want to get out of the house.
Me: You had basketball camp Monday thru Thursday and this morning you went to the doctor and then the hospital. (Okay, I know doctor visit and subsequent x-ray to determine if nose is broken isn’t REALLY an outing, but it’s still out of the house.) You have to learn to be with yourself. You have to learn to entertain yourself. You don’t need outside entertainment 24/7.
Girl: You say this every summer.
Me: Uh-huh. Sooner or later you’ll figure it out.
Saturday afternoon, 5-ish:
Girl and the DH went to see Pirates III (yes, dramatic sigh, I opted out of seeing Johnny and kept my butt in the chair and we know I have a serious thing for Captain Jack — I know, my dedication is boundless) and then went up to the DH’s office afterward and they’re about to take off for the dirt track races. I’ve stopped by to see them on my big outing to the Wal-Mart to pick up more toner and paper.
Me: I’ve been at my computer all day. I haven’t talked to anyone all day. No phone calls, no emails, nothing. I think I needed to get out for a few minutes.
Girl gets this wicked little twinkle in her eye and the minute the last words have left my mouth, I know what’s coming.
Girl: Mom, that’s okay. You really need to learn to be by yourself. You don’t have to be entertained all the time.
Me: I’ve been entertaining myself at the keyboard since six o’clock this morning, sister. Maybe I’ll entertain myself by spanking you now.:happy2:
I hate it when that kid sounds like me.:fryingpan:
